“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if … ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation … he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.” —Romans 12:6–8, NKJV
One of Satan’s oldest tricks is to make us think we aren’t worth anything and that God can’t use us. But it simply isn’t true. From one end to the other, the Bible tells us that God loves us. If He didn’t, Christ never would have left heaven’s glory and come down to this earth to die for our sins. But He did—because God loves us.
But God also wants to use us—and as the verses printed above make it clear, He has equipped every one of us with the gifts we need to serve Him.
What spiritual gifts has God given you? They won’t be the same as someone else’s gifts—but they are the ones God knew you needed. Don’t say your gifts are insignificant or don’t matter; God didn’t make a mistake when He gave them to you. You may have a special gift for welcoming visitors to your church, or helping the church’s nursery, or praying for others, or becoming part of a team that does errands for sick people. It may be helping in a homeless shelter or packing boxes of clothing to ship overseas.
Ask God to show you your gifts—and then ask Him to help you use them for His glory.
Thank You, Father, for creating us with purpose. Help us recognize our gifts and to use them for Your glory.
